DISCARCE
DISCARCE is a collection made from postconsumer textiles and the designer’s own deadstock and saved off cuts from previous projects.
The work builds on her Artistic Research Project, made together with New Order of Fashion in 2021. During this project Randestad developed a library of materials made from post-consumer textiles. The concept was to treat the discarded textiles as a raw material that could be transformed into something new through combinations and techniques. The techniques used were cutting holes, fusing and merging stiff with stretchy materials.
In DISCARCE, Randestad builds on this previous exploration by creating expressive garments where the manipulated textiles create new value, behaviour and appearance – going from 2D to 3D, creating optical illusions and tactile effects.
The title DISCARCE plays with the words discarded and scarce. When working with upcycling, someone else’s discarded materials can suddenly become precious due to the scarcity of that particular garment or material.
